Story of FC Packaging Design

This project brief is about our product users' problem, consumers' product presentation area, and product cost. Formerly, Faber-Castell color pencils have a metal tube packaging in Turkey. It caused two problems—first high production cost, second product presentation with blister packaging. Blister packaging means you must use extra plastic and paper material. By the way, metal material is not helpful for color pencils users. Because when pencil set drops the ground, they make a very loud sound and also pencils lead are broken.

Design/Components

For all these reasons, I started to research material and manufacturing methods. PE was the best material for our goals. Because it's so soundless, cheap, soft, and a protector for color pencil's lead. When I started the design, I could make two tube designs with and without a euro hole. But this way's ROI was not okay for the company. Finally, the mold engineer and I were found a way out. The product cap part has one blow mold without a euro hole. But when you need produce with the euro hole, you can be added a new mold part to the top of the mold. In this way, we can produce to order demand.

Mass Product

End of the day, new Faber-Castell Triangular Colored Pencils became very high sales. First-year of the sales, two product types sold close to 1 million pieces. Specifically, the discounter market channel preferred the euro hole version of this product because it occupies less space than classic blister packaging.
